rpfview-cli: extract weapons.meta and any game file

rpfview-cli.exe finds and extracts GTA V game files from scripts. It uses the game folder and keys you already set up in the app and never writes into the game folder.

Overview

  • Installed next to the app. It uses the game folder and keys already set up in the app.
  • rpfview-cli extract-weapon-metas extracts all weapon metadata of the base game, the update and every DLC pack in under a second: weapons.meta, per-weapon DLC files, components, animations, archetypes, vehicle weapons, loadouts and pickups. That is about 450 files, keeping the game's folder structure.
  • rpfview-cli extract "<pattern>" --out <folder> and rpfview-cli find "<pattern>" find and extract any files by name.
  • Read-only towards the game: it never writes into the game folder. Good for scripts and AI agents.
Windows PowerShell

Example: rpfview-cli extract-weapon-metas prints the game folder and output folder, then “453 file(s) extracted to D:\work\weapon-metas in 0.2 s. Searched 179 archive(s).”

Where it is installed

The installer puts the CLI next to the app at %LocalAppData%\RPFView\current\rpfview-cli.exe. It is not on your PATH, so call it with its full path or add the folder to PATH yourself:

& "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\RPFView\current\rpfview-cli.exe" --version

Set up the game folder and keys once in the app; the CLI reuses them. Don't have RPFView yet? Download it here.

Commands

rpfview-cli extract-weapon-metas [--out <folder>] [options] # default output: .\weapon-metas
rpfview-cli extract <pattern>... --out <folder> [options] # e.g. "*.ymt", "handling*.meta"
rpfview-cli find <pattern>... [options] # list path + size, extract nothing
rpfview-cli help | --version

extract-weapon-metas

Extracts every weapon metadata file of the base game, the update and all DLC packs. The default output folder is .\weapon-metas; change it with --out. The fixed patterns are *weapon*.meta, loadouts*.meta and pickups*.meta.

rpfview-cli extract-weapon-metas --out D:\work\weapon-metas

extract and find

extract writes every matching file to the output folder. find lists the path and size of every match and extracts nothing.

rpfview-cli extract "*.ymt" --out D:\work\ymt
rpfview-cli extract "handling*.meta" --out D:\work\handling --list
rpfview-cli find "adder*"

Patterns

  • Matched against the file name only, case-insensitive.
  • * and ? wildcards are supported.
  • Several patterns are allowed.

Options

OptionMeaning
--game <folder>Use another GTA V folder.
--keys <folder>Load the keys from a folder.
--include-modsAlso search the mods folder (skipped by default).
--listShow what would be extracted; write nothing.
--overwriteReplace existing output files (they are kept by default).

Output

Extracted files keep the game's folder structure, for example:

weapon-metas\update\update.rpf\common\data\ai\weapons.meta

stdout gets one line per file (path<TAB>size for find and --list); stderr gets the summary and errors, so you can pipe the file list into other tools. Example summary:

Game folder: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto V
Extracting to D:\work\weapon-metas
453 file(s) extracted to D:\work\weapon-metas in 0.2 s. Searched 179 archive(s).

Exit codes

CodeMeaning
0OK
1Failure
2Invalid command line
130Cancelled
