Overview

- Plain
.meta/.xmlfiles are shown as they are, with XML highlighting and folding. - Binary RSC meta (
.ymap,.ytyp,.ymt), PSO (.ymt,.ymf) and RBF files are converted to readable, Rockstar-style XML. - Hashes are resolved to names through a dictionary that RPFView builds automatically from your own game files.
Step-by-step guides
- How to convert YMT, YMAP and YTYP files to XML
Read the game's binary metadata as Rockstar-style XML: open a single .ymt, .ymap or .ytyp file and save it, or convert whole folders in one go.
Questions
Where do the encryption keys come from? Is this legal and safe?
The game's archives are encrypted. RPFView ships no Rockstar keys. On first start it derives them once from your own copy of GTA5.exe.
The second key part comes from CodeWalker's public magic.dat. RPFView downloads it from CodeWalker's GitHub repository only after you tick a consent box, or you can pick a local copy instead. The keys are verified against your game and cached on your PC, so later starts need nothing. See keys and first start.
Does RPFView work with GTA V Enhanced?
No. RPFView supports GTA V Legacy for PC only (GTA5.exe). GTA V Enhanced (GTA5_Enhanced.exe, the 2025 gen9 edition) is not supported, and neither are GTA IV or RDR.
Since March 2025 Epic Games lists GTA V Legacy and GTA V Enhanced separately. If you only have Enhanced installed, download GTA V Legacy from your library and point RPFView at that folder.
