The RPFView app
No accounts, no ads. The app sends exactly four kinds of network requests:
- Update checks to
updates.rpfview.app, the update server hosted on Cloudflare. Like any web request, these include your IP address, plus the installed version. - Crash reports to Sentry when the app runs into an error (details below). They are on by default, and you can turn them off in Settings → Privacy.
- Usage statistics to PostHog about which features are used (details below). They are on by default, and you can turn them off in Settings → Privacy.
- Only with your explicit consent, a one-time download of
magic.datfrom CodeWalker's GitHub repository during key setup. You can pick a local copy instead, and then this request never happens. GitHub's own privacy policy applies to that download.
Everything else stays on your PC:
- Settings, keys, logs and the name dictionary:
%AppData%\RPFView
The diagnostic report you can copy when key setup fails stays on your clipboard until you decide to send it to someone. It never contains keys.
The app never modifies the original game files unless you explicitly edit and save an archive, and it steers such edits into the game's mods\ folder.
Crash reports
When the app runs into an error, it sends a crash report to Sentry so we can find and fix the bug. A report contains:
- the error and where in RPFView it happened (stack trace);
- the RPFView version and update channel, the Windows and .NET versions and the time;
- a random ID of this installation, so we can tell one crash on many PCs from many crashes on one PC.
Folder paths in error messages are replaced before sending (for example <game>\update\update.rpf). Reports never contain file contents, keys, logs, your Windows user name or the name of your PC. Like any web request, sending a report reveals your IP address to Sentry; it is not stored with the report.
We send crash reports because we have a legitimate interest in finding and fixing bugs (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) processes them for us as our processor and stores them in its EU region in Germany; see Sentry's privacy policy. Reports are deleted automatically after Sentry's retention period. You can object at any time by turning off Send crash reports in Settings → Privacy; the app then sends nothing to Sentry.
Usage statistics
To learn which features are used and where to focus our work, the app sends usage statistics to PostHog. They contain:
- which RPFView features and tools are used, and when, with categories and counts only (for example how many files were exported);
- the RPFView version and update channel and the Windows version;
- a random ID of this installation, so we can tell one installation using a feature often from many installations using it once, and a random ID for each run of the app.
Usage statistics never contain file names, folder paths, search queries, file contents, keys, logs, your Windows user name or the name of your PC, and they are not linked to your name or any account. Like any web request, sending them reveals your IP address to PostHog; it is discarded and not stored.
We collect usage statistics because we have a legitimate interest in improving RPFView (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). PostHog (PostHog, Inc.) processes them for us as our processor and stores them in its EU Cloud in Frankfurt, Germany; see PostHog's privacy policy. Statistics are deleted automatically after PostHog's retention period. You can object at any time by turning off Send usage statistics in Settings → Privacy; the app then sends nothing to PostHog.
This website
Hosting and server logs
The website runs on Cloudflare Workers. To deliver pages and protect the site, Cloudflare processes technical request data such as your IP address, browser user agent, the requested URL and the time of the request. Cloudflare acts as our processor; see Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Downloads
Downloads are served from the update server updates.rpfview.app, also on Cloudflare. The download buttons on this site first pass through a short redirect on this website, which counts the download: which package, the country Cloudflare reports for the request and the page of this site the button was on. It stores no IP address, browser details or anything else that identifies you.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It uses no cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and does not track you across sites. There is no Google Analytics, no tracking pixel and no advertising, and the site loads no third-party fonts or embeds.
Cookies and local storage
The website sets no cookies. If you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage on your device only. It is never sent to us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal data, to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. Since we keep no accounts and no personal profiles, there is usually nothing about you to look up; contact us if you have questions.
Changes
We update this page when the app or the website changes how data is handled.
