GTA V Legacy only, not Enhanced

RPFView works with GTA V Legacy (GTA5.exe). GTA V Enhanced (GTA5_Enhanced.exe, the 2025 gen9 edition) is not supported. Since March 2025 Epic Games lists both editions separately; if you only have Enhanced, download GTA V Legacy from your library.

Installing

    Run the installer

    Open RPFView-win-Setup.exe. It installs for your user only, without administrator rights.

    RPFView opens

    The installer starts RPFView when it is done.

    Pick the game folder

    RPFView detects GTA V Legacy in Steam, Epic Games and Rockstar Games Launcher folders. You can also choose it yourself.

    Set up keys

    Tick the consent box to let RPFView download CodeWalker's public magic.dat, or pick a local copy. The keys are derived from your own GTA5.exe.

“Windows protected your PC”?

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn about it. Click More info, check that the file is RPFView-win-Setup.exe, then click Run anyway. Please keep SmartScreen and your antivirus switched on.

What happens after installing

Updates

At startup a small window checks for a new version, downloads and installs it, and restarts RPFView. Updates are usually small delta packages, often under 1 MB, and they are mandatory so security fixes reach everyone. Without a connection, RPFView starts normally after a few seconds.

Where your data lives

  • App: %LocalAppData%\RPFView
  • Settings, keys, logs and the name dictionary: %AppData%\RPFView

Apart from update checks, crash reports and usage statistics (both of which you can turn off) and the one-time, consent-based magic.dat download, nothing leaves your PC. Privacy

Uninstalling

Open Windows Settings → Apps, find RPFView and choose Uninstall. For the portable version, delete its folder.
