Before you start
- RPFView 0.5 or later, and GTA V Legacy for PC. Download RPFView if you don't have it yet.
- The game folder and keys set up. RPFView does this on its first start; see how to open RPF files if you skipped it.
- Your own clothing from a FiveM resource needs neither: it only needs the resource's
streamfolder (see below).
1. Open the Thumbnail Generator
- In the main window, choose Thumbnails → Clothing….
- Under Clothing, choose All clothing of and pick the ped:
mp_m_freemode_01for the male freemode character,mp_f_freemode_01for the female one. - The first time, RPFView finds the clothing of all DLC packs and sorts it. This takes a moment and is reused until you close RPFView.
All clothing of lists every component and prop of the base game and every DLC pack, numbered like the game: the numbers SetPedComponentVariation takes and FiveM uses. Male top 55 is the police shirt.
2. Choose the slots
- Under Slots, tick the slots you need, such as Tops, Pants, Shoes or the props Hats and Glasses. All and None tick or clear every slot. Each slot shows how many drawables and images it will make.
- Leave Every texture variation on to get one image per texture variation. Off, you get only the first variation of each item.
- Leave Leave out Rockstar's placeholders on. It skips the checkerboard textures and flat stand-in models that would otherwise end up in your menu.
- Tick Include alternate models only if you need them, for example hair that fits under hats.
3. Pick size, camera and format
- Size: 128 × 128 to 1024 × 1024. 512 × 512 is the default and plenty for a menu.
- Camera: Front, Three-quarter (front left), Side or Back. Each item is framed to fill the image on its own.
- Format: WebP gives small files with a transparent background, the best choice for a menu that loads many images. PNG is lossless and transparent. JPG has no transparency and uses a white background.
- Quality (WebP and JPG): 90 by default. Lower makes smaller files; for WebP, 100 is lossless.
4. Name the files for FiveM
Under Files, open Presets and pick one of the two FiveM presets. The default for all clothing is Numbers per slot, which is not what FiveM scripts expect.
- FiveM: game numbers writes the same names as
fivem-greenscreener, such asmale_11_55.pngfor top 55 andmale_prop_0_46.pngfor hat 46. Use it if your scripts useSetPedComponentVariationandSetPedPropIndex. - FiveM: collections writes names such as
male_11_male_heist_3.png: the collection and the item's number inside it. Use it if your scripts use the collection natives (SetPedCollectionComponentVariation…). These names stay right when a game update adds clothing and shifts the game numbers.
In both, texture variation 0 has no suffix and the others end in _1, _2 and so on. Example under the name shows the name of the first image, and the Preview shows every image as it will be saved:
male_11_55.png top 55, texture 0 male_11_55_1.png top 55, texture 1 male_prop_0_46.png hat 46, texture 0
You can also type your own pattern in Name. Placeholders lists everything you can use, such as {gender}, {id}, {drawable}, {texture} and {dlc}. Add digits to pad a number ({drawable:000} gives 003), and a / makes a subfolder.
5. Generate the images
- Check Folder. By default the images go to
Pictures\RPFView\mp_m_freemode_01 (all clothing); Browse… picks another one. - Look through the Preview. Faded tiles are placeholders that will be left out.
- Click Generate. The progress shows how many images are done and about how long is left.
- When it finishes, click Open folder and copy the images into your clothing menu, shop or inventory resource.
Your own clothing from a FiveM resource
A FiveM clothing resource streams its files flat, with the collection in the name, such as mp_m_freemode_01_mp_m_mypack^jbib_000_u.ydd. RPFView sorts them back into their collections.
- Choose Thumbnails → Clothing…, then Folder and Browse…, and pick the resource's
streamfolder. - If the folder holds several collections (male, female, props), pick one under Collection.
- Keep the preset FiveM: collections, which is the default for stream folders. Images are named like
male_11_mp_m_mypack_0.png. - Choose the slots, image options and folder as above, then click Generate.
FiveM: game numbers isn't available for a folder: the game numbers of your own clothing depend on the other clothing on your server, so the images are named by collection instead.
Common problems
“All clothing of” is greyed out
It needs the game folder and its keys. Set them up once with Tools → Game folder & keys… in the main window.
“FiveM: game numbers” is greyed out
Game numbers only exist for All clothing of. For a folder, use FiveM: collections.
Some images end in “-2”
Two images got the same name, so RPFView numbered the second one. Your pattern is missing a placeholder that tells them apart, usually {texture} or {textureSuffix}.
The numbers don't match my server
Game numbers count the base game and every DLC pack in the game's load order. If your server streams add-on clothing or runs an older game build, its numbers differ; name the images by collection instead. More on this on RPFView for FiveM.
